take that!

MARINA JIMÉNEZ and KATE HAMMER
From Friday's Globe and Mail
April 23, 2009 at 10:55 PM EDT

Smug early birds take note: Night owls actually have more mental stamina than those who awaken at the crack of dawn, according to new research.

“It's the late risers who have the advantage, and can outperform the early birds,” said Philippe Peigneux, a professor of clinical neuropsychology at the Free University of Brussels in Belgium, who along with co-author Christina Schmidt published the counterintuitive findings in the latest issue of the journal Science.

Using magnetic resonance imaging, the pair conducted an experiment that measured alertness and ability to concentrate in 30 subjects who were naturally “extreme” early or late risers. The early risers got up between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m., and the late risers at noon.

Maintaining their natural schedules, the volunteers spent two consecutive nights in sleep labs. After 10 hours of being awake, the early birds showed reduced activity in brain areas linked to attention span, compared with the night owls. The early risers also felt sleepier and tended to perform tasks more slowly, compared with the night owls, when their level of alertness was measured.

“The results suggest that night owls generally outlast early birds in the length of time they can be awake without becoming mentally fatigued,” the study concluded.

Dan Reynish, host and producer of radio show Saskatchewan Weekend, rises most days at 3:30 a.m. The Regina radio personality never uses the snooze button on his alarm clock and enjoys getting his day started ahead of his co-workers.

But he admits that his energy dwindles some afternoons.

“There are definitely times where I find if I'm not doing something or I'm sitting down. … I find myself slowing down a bit,” he said.

Thierry Busset, pastry chef at CinCin, an upscale Italian restaurant in Vancouver, wakes up most days around noon. He said he always feels well rested and enjoys working late into the night when the restaurant is empty and his mind is clear.

“I'm lucky because I need very little sleep, and I wake up ready to go,” he said.

Yet there are no “late-riser” special discounts or idioms such as “the night owl catches the worm.” That's because of societal pressures, says Prof. Peigneux, co-author of the study. Those who hit their stride at midnight are often required to then get up early for work or school. They may appear to be lazy or unmotivated – but are really just sleep-deprived.

“If you allow them to live on their preferred schedule, then they can outperform the morning types,” he said.

The study measured the part of the brain that is home to the circadian master clock that operates according to a day-night cycle. Sleep pressure dampens the circadian signal, and activity in this area decreases the longer the person is awake. The night owls were more resistant to sleep pressure.

Genetics dictate whether someone is a morning person, Prof. Peigneux said, adding that most people are “neutral.” But 15 per cent of the population is an “extreme” early morning or late riser; and another 15 per cent are “moderately evening or morning types.”

AISEHHHHHHH!
But life's so cruel, school starts at the time when we must wake up at 6 plus, 7am every morning~ T___T

Piano mania!!

WOOOOOOOOW. There are so many things I want to share right at this very moment!
But there is one person I really want to introduce all of you to:
And he is the PIANO-MAN! Before I watched his videos, I thought he was just self-proclaiming or something, but he was absolutely brilliant! I've posted videos of him playing Britney's "Circus", Taylor Swift's "Love Story", SNSD's "Gee", Lady Gaga's "Poker Face", Big Bang's "Haru Haru", DBSK's "Mirotic" and Super Junior's "Sorry Sorry". Go check it out yo. LOL.

Take a look at him playing Britney Spear's "Circus" on the piano. His fingers move damn fast sia.

Then there's Taylor Swift's "Love Story"

SNSD's "Gee", where he actually added his own touch and kinda changed the song a teeny bit. I like it when he adds his own touch to the music!

Lady Gaga's "Poker Face"

Big Bang's "Haru Haru", my favourite!

Dong Bang Shin Gi's "Mirotic"!

Dong Bang Shin Gi's "Why Did I Fall in Love with You?"

Super Junior's "Sorry Sorry"!

I actually like to go on Youtube and see(& of course listen) to people playing piano covers of songs I like, and I always get amazed by them. Maybe it's because of my unfulfilled childhood dream of learning the piano which gets to me. LOL!

Cold Rainy Day

Received two sms-es from Bryan today, and it was to announced the promotion of Syidah to Shift Manager and Evelyn to Store Manager of Capitol Tower! Wow wow wow~! Although I have no idea where Capitol Tower is, but CONGRATULATIONS TO THE TWO OF THEM ANYWAY! :D

The weather today was cool and rainy, and those with slippers will definitely be in danger of slipping on the floor and dying. Even though my slippers did not fail me and I did not slip and die, I almost died in the make-up STMO lecture because it was from 4pm to 6pm. I was not paying attention throughout three-quarter of the lecture!

I'VE GOT A MOVIE TO RECOMMEND:
HOTEL FOR DOGS!

It was a really heart-warming show, and the dogs are all DAMN CUTE! I like the show a lot, I think anyone who's reading this should try and watch it. Quite amazing if mechanisms in the show are really available in real life. O____O"

A couple more days to Mum's birthday!

again / nobody mash - Aliks (Wondergirls and 2pm)

This is the 2pm's "Again & Again" remixed with Wonder Girls' "Nobody"! Remix done by Aliks! I'm a fan of his remixes actually, you can easily find him on Youtube, Facebook and Twitter! XD

When I reached Raffles Place for work today, Nescafe was doing a roadshow and giving out FREE coffee leh! Almost directly outside our store somemore. LOLLLL. Then there was this Xandol weight loss drink booth which was stacked full of products. Aghil wanted to buy the Xandol weight-loss coke sia!! HAHAHAHA! But because I heard the word "Coke", I completely lost interest. Maybe if it was Xandol weight-loss milo, or Xandol weight-loss tea then i buy lor.

I was friggin tired throughout the day, and while on the bus journey to work, I slept all the way la. When I woke up, I was already reaching Tanjong Pagar. O____O I think my period is really coming lor. LOL!

Symptoms when my period is coming a-knocking on my door:
1. Exceptionally tired, more tired than my usual stoning tired. If i usually concuss, when I'm about to have the reds, it's a coma.
2. Easily get muscle-ache, even from holding a laptop
3. Exceptionally BIG appetite, bigger than my usual big appetite (HAHA)
4. My temper gets even worse =__=" I can't control it man, seriously.

That's why I have never keep track of the days, the symptoms help me. YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY ! :|

ANYWAYYYYYYY, yesterday we had a BK outing! KAKI + KAKI + KAKI = BKs! LOL. I had a piercing done on the top of my left ear with BK2, then BK1 bought a shirt with BK2, then BKs bought bags. O____O" I got the bright yellow bag, so people can now see the bag first then see me. HEHEHEHEHE. Then there was the dinner where we had to wait SOOOO long between each course but the ambience and environment was totally chilllll and cooooool. LOVED IT!

Class today was fine! Found out that, there were more people than I expected who signed up for the WISP class alone! It's quite a relief to know that. Heh heh! However, we have not form our groups yet. Actually, looking back on the week which passed so damn bloody fast, I had led it rather enrichingly(if there's such a word)! Everyday I had something meaningful to do, and I'm packed for the week except Friday and Sunday. Hahaha~ But once I am free, I go swimming, then it becomes a packed day. Ok, I know whoever is reading this does not have to know that. o___o

Alright, class at 9am tomorrow. I am going to sleep in 5 minutes so that I won't fall sick! I DON'T WANT TO BLOODY FALL SICK. IF I FALL SICK I WILL COMMIT SUICIDE. LOL. Ok, just kidding. But I really don't wanna fall sick. =_______=" k thanks bye.

Genting Trip! (Part Two)

YAY NOW FOR THE DAY TWO PICTURES!
There are even videos, but I have not received them yet. :D We went to take the SPACE SHOT! And FLYING COASTER! AND ROLLING THUNDER MINE TRAIN! and FLYING DRAGON! and CYCLONE! and blah, blah blah. Go-Karting, Dinosaurland, etc etc. We took almost all the rides in the outdoor theme park, thank God for the good weather after the slight rain.

The Tamiya car tracks in Genting. Or Initial D.

Waaaaaah.

Buffet Breakfast, and it's...

Very crowded.

Got personal chef to cook for you. Heh.

Our FIRST ride! FLYING DRAGON~ FEI BA~~~~~ There were only 5 of us on the first ride, so we just 自high on the ride.

Second up, the SPINNER! Still as nice as always!

Waiting for Cyclone!

Due to my terrible 自拍 skills, we got fellow tourists to help us take a picture. :D

WE ARE GOING ON THE SPACE SHOT! Out of all the rides, this ride has the longest queue.

We were belted up and ready to go. Super exciting sia, I get an adrenaline rush just recalling the experience. O_O IT'S BLOODY COOL SIA! WE GOT A VIDEO!

After the space shot, it kinda rained. So we decided to go in and try out the 4D motion picture thingie! Wah! The glasses kinda made me dizzy. The movie at that time was "Monsters of the Deep". Suay sia, I thought we were watching The Adventures of Jett and Jinn(refer to previous entry where we were the mascots), in the end see vicious fishes and sharks swimming towards us threatening to bite our heads off. =.="

But it is quite cool la. The chair tilts here and there according to the direction you're supposedly moving in the movie.

Elaine, your arm looks damn awkward in this photo sia. LOL.
After the rain, we went to take the boat where we had to "cycle" to get it moving. It was relaxing, I quite liked it. Ivan was riding the boat alone, and it was quite funny to see him tilting to one side.
We went to take the antique car after three consecutive rounds of Rolling Thunder Mine Train!

I think this is a souvenir shop. I cannot really remember either. Aha!

Sometime in between, GL, QY and I went to take the Flying Coaster(We call it Superman though). It's the ride where you lie down and all, then you go on crazy spins.

At the beginning...

At the end...

All I could do was laugh because the ride was crazy! It is ranked no. 2 most exciting after Space Shot, because you cannot friggin see the tracks! You just plunge down! O____O

Yay we go Dinosaurland.

Group photo after our Dinosaurland trip!

Jie Mei Tuan. o___o

Mmm Yum Yum, it was not THAT mmm yum yum.

Our 床照外漏already O_O

New fashion statement video.

Ok, that's all for DAY TWO!

Genting Trip!

Genting trip from 13 - 15th April! It was really the long-awaited trip, and I enjoyed it. Pardon my mood swings during the trip though, I can never be high when I am not feeling well, which was 70% of the time. :S

These are the photos for DAY ONE!

So... before check in, all of us were just sitting at Starbucks. The check-in place really looked like a polyclinic. o_o

Due to the air pressure, this bag of tidbit expanded so damn much, it looked like it was about to explode anytime.

We ran around and take pictures, because our polyclinic number was not yet called.

Shrouded in fog sia. Totally feel like going back, the weather in Singapore is (fill in your own word) now.
This is the view from our room! I really love the view~~~~
Ok, this photo is in the wrong place. Our bus stopped by this petrol station where there is Dunkin' Donuts! The legendary DD! So we went in to buy some, and I think it tastes pretty fine. Alright, I'm not a fussy eater la.

YOU SEE HOW FOGGY IT WAS WHEN WE WERE GOING UP THE HILL TO GENTING. TMD I WANT TO GO BACK.

Yay Starbucks. Us partners actually get a friggin' 30% discount there lor, why my homeland I only get 20%. =.="

We were just dawdling around. I think we were on our way to the Cable Car, or was it lunch? I cannot remember. o_o One thing I know though, we took this photo on the escalator. LOL.

Look alike or not? We are the real life mascots for The Adventures of Jett and Jinn! o_o

We are going to the Cable Carrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr aka Genting Skyway.

Not a very long queue, it's off peak season.

Wah super damn nice! But we kinda got car-sick. Thank God for Pikin.

Group photo before take-off!

It was raining, and the cable car stopped a few times in mid-track on the way down. :S

Night view~~~~
My Kenny Rogers dinner which cost 20RM.

At 10+ pm, we went to watch a movie! Shinjuku Incident with Daniel Wu and Jackie Chan. Alamak, the movie was so violent and bloody and @#%#$%$%&%^* . Oh man, Daniel Wu looked like Joker. Why so SEEERIIOUS? The show is ok la, at the starting it was a lil draggy and I couldnt get the plot.

After that we go back room prepare for DAY TWO: THEME PARK DAY! :D
Actually, there are more photos, but I am so lazy to upload ALL of them. They can be found on Facebook(again), that is if you added any of us in Facebook, you can see them all.
